Landmark Aquatic Led Pool Services for 2024 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials
As the nation’s top swimmers prepared to compete at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials in Indianapolis, Landmark Aquatic played a pivotal role in ensuring the event’s success. Through its subsidiary Spear Corporation, Landmark Aquatic provided crucial mechanical and chemical services for the world-class pools installed at Lucas Oil Stadium.
In a groundbreaking endeavor, two Olympic-sized pools – a 10-lane competition pool and a 10-lane training pool with a connected 7-lane pool – were constructed inside the renowned football stadium. This unprecedented setup presented unique challenges that Landmark Aquatic expertly addressed.
Spear Corporation, a longtime partner of USA Swimming, collaborated with Myrtha Pools and Dodd Technologies for nearly two years to make this ambitious project a reality. Their combined expertise was instrumental in overcoming the logistical complexities of constructing and maintaining these temporary pools within the tight timeframe of just two weeks.
The scale of this project was truly remarkable:
- 1.8 Million Gallons of Water: Sourced sustainably from the White River to fill the pools.
- 100 HP of Pump Capacity: Capable of moving more than 8,500 gallons per minute.
- 5,000 Linear Feet of Piping: Ensuring efficient water flow and management throughout the event.
- 78,000 square-feet of decking crafted to perfection.
- 55 tons of stainless steel components ensuring durability and precision.
- 1,175 meters of floating lane ropes for seamless competitions.
At the heart of Landmark Aquatic’s contribution were its state-of-the-art pool pump systems and industry-leading water filtration technologies. Neptune Benson’s Defender® Regenerative Media Filters, renowned for their eco-friendly and cost-effective performance, provided exceptional water filtration down to 1 micron, ensuring pristine water quality for the athletes. The water treatment process also utilized Pulsar’s advanced system to meticulously clean and prepare the water for competition.
Moreover, Landmark Aquatic’s expertly engineered pool pump systems were optimized for maximum efficiency, reliability, and performance. Designed by seasoned professionals and installed with meticulous precision, these systems ensured optimal water temperature, circulation, filtration, and sanitation, creating an unparalleled swimming environment for the Olympic hopefuls.
The project was the result of three years of planning, design, and preparation, integrating the expertise of over a dozen different firms and entities. More than 8,000 hours were invested in constructing the pool shells and accessories alone.
As the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials took center stage, Landmark Aquatic’s unwavering commitment to excellence and its cutting-edge technologies played a crucial role in supporting the dreams of countless athletes vying for a coveted spot on the Olympic team. With their expertise and dedication, Landmark Aquatic ensured that the pools at Lucas Oil Stadium provided a world-class experience befitting of this prestigious event.
Interestingly, the legacy of these pools will continue beyond the trials. Once the event concludes, the pools will be disassembled and relocated within just 5 days. The Competition Pool will find its new home in Fort Wayne, Indiana, while the Warm-Up Pools are destined for the Cayman Islands, extending the impact of this monumental project well beyond the Olympic Trials.
This incredible collaboration showcases the dedication and innovation of Spear – a Landmark Aquatic Company, Myrtha Pools, Counsilman-Hunsaker, Lucas Oil Stadium, USA Swimming, and numerous other partners, demonstrating how cutting-edge technology and collaborative efforts can create an extraordinary environment for world-class athletic competition.
